Middle East Oilfield – Large-Scale TPU Fuel Storage Bladder System (Collapsible, Reusable, Anti-Static, Over 8,000 Units Supplied)

Middle East Oilfield – Large-Scale TPU Fuel Storage Bladder System (Collapsible, Reusable, Anti-Static, Over 8,000 Units Supplied)
A Middle East oilfield services company needed lightweight, rapidly deployable, anti‑static, leak‑proof temporary fuel storage for remote desert wells where steel tanks couldn’t be transported. Over 6 years they procured 8,000+ TPU fuel bladders (5,000–200,000L). We supplied polyester‑TPU bladders with oil/chemical resistance, -50°C to +70°C performance, anti‑static coating (≤10⁹Ω), HF‑welded seams, and stainless quick‑connects. Every unit receives a 1.5× pressure test plus 7‑day standby with serial traceability, cutting leakage complaints from ~3% to <.1%.

Client Background

A major oilfield services provider in the Middle East operates across multiple drilling sites in remote desert locations across Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. The company supplies temporary fuel storage solutions for drilling rigs, hydraulic fracturing operations, and emergency response contingencies. With hundreds of wells spread across vast desert terrain and road conditions extremely poor, conventional steel storage tanks could not be transported to most sites. The company needed a lightweight, rapidly deployable, anti-static, reusable flexible fuel storage container for temporary crude oil storage and fuel transfer at well sites.

The company has partnered with us for over 6 years, with cumulative procurement of TPU fuel storage bladders exceeding 8,000 units, covering capacities from 5,000 litres to 200,000 litres. They are currently our largest client in the oilfield fuel storage sector globally.

 Client Pain Points

1. Difficult Transport and Deployment – Well sites are located deep in the desert. Large steel fuel tanks cannot be transported directly, and even when broken down, require heavy lifting equipment for installation – time-consuming and labour-intensive.

2. High Cost of Rigid Tanks – The oilfield company requires a large number of temporary fuel storage facilities across numerous dispersed well sites. The high cost and long lead times of traditional steel tanks make them impractical for widespread deployment.

3. Insufficient Fuel Storage Capacity – As oilfield development expands, the total storage capacity of existing steel tanks can no longer meet the demands of fracturing operations and temporary fuel storage.

4. Oil Corrosion and Safety Risks – Crude oil contains sulfides and other corrosive components. Ordinary materials swell or age with prolonged contact. At the same time, oilfield environments have strict safety requirements for anti-static properties.

5. Strict Environmental Compliance – Oilfield operations have zero tolerance for oil leakage. Fuel storage containers must be 100% leak-proof, as well as recyclable and reusable, in full compliance with local and international environmental regulations.

 Our Solution

 Product Specifications

Based on the storage needs across the client‘s different well sites, we provided a full range of TPU fuel storage bladders from 5,000 litres to 200,000 litres. Main specifications include:

- 5,000L – Small well sites / temporary fuel supply

- 20,000L – 50,000L – Mid-sized well sites / fracturing fluid storage

- 100,000L – 200,000L – Centralised fuel storage / large fracturing operations

 Material and Process

- Base Fabric: High-tenacity polyester scrim + double-sided TPU coating, weight 1000–1800 g/m². TPU offers exceptional oil resistance, chemical stability, abrasion resistance, and anti-ageing properties.

- Anti-Static Treatment: Anti-static additives are incorporated into the TPU coating to meet oilfield safety requirements, with surface resistance ≤ 10⁹ Ω, compliant with explosion-proof operation standards.

- Oil Resistance Certification: Certified to GB/T 1690 or equivalent international standards (ASTM D471) for long-term contact with crude oil, diesel, gasoline, and other hydrocarbons without swelling or degradation.

- Temperature Range: -50°C to +70°C, adaptable to the extreme temperature variations of Middle East oilfields – from desert heat above 50°C to winter nights near freezing.

- Welding Technology: All seams are high-frequency welded, with weld strength exceeding 90% of the base fabric, ensuring 100% leak-proof performance.

- Quick-Connect Fittings: Stainless steel quick-connect couplings and valves at inlet/outlet points, allowing on-site hose connection without tools.

Quality Assurance: 100% Pressure Test + 7‑Day Standby

To address the client‘s most critical concern – leakage – we implemented a 100% pressure test plus 7‑day standby quality control process:

1. Pressure Test – After production, each bladder is subjected to an air or water pressure test at 1.5 times the design working pressure, held for 30 minutes. All seams, fittings and connections are inspected for leaks.

2. 7‑Day Standby – Bladders that pass the pressure test are then filled and left to stand for 7 days. Quality inspectors record pressure changes and visual condition daily to ensure no slow leakage, material deformation or seam failure.

3. 100% Full Inspection – Unlike industry sampling practice, we apply this process to every single finished bladder – guaranteeing that every unit the client receives is 100% leak-proof.

4. Traceability – Each fuel bladder has a unique serial number recording production date, test data and standby results.

This innovation reduced the client’s after-sales complaint rate from approximately 3% leakage in early cooperation to below 0.1% .

Key Advantages vs. Traditional Steel Tanks

1. Extremely Lightweight – Weighs only about 10% of a steel tank of the same capacity. A 200,000-litre steel tank weighs 8–10 tonnes, while a flexible bladder of the same capacity weighs only about 500–800 kg – easily handled by a small crew.

2. Compact for Transport – Collapsible to just 2–5% of its filled volume when empty. Where one truck could previously carry one steel tank, it can now carry five flexible bladders.

3. Fast Deployment, No Foundations – Flexible bladders can be unfolded and filled directly on prepared ground. No concrete foundations or heavy lifting equipment are required.

4. Reusable & Environmentally Friendly – Design life of 5–10 years with multiple folding cycles without damage. All seams 100% pressure-tested to ensure zero leakage.

5. Superior Oil and Chemical Resistance – TPU material is inherently resistant to crude oil components including sulfides and other corrosive elements.

6. Military-Grade Durability – Many of our TPU fabrics meet or exceed military performance specifications, ensuring reliability in the world‘s harshest environments.

 Project Results

- Order Volume: Cumulative procurement exceeding 8,000 TPU fuel storage bladders, with total storage capacity of approximately 500,000 cubic metres.

- Deployment Results: The bladders have proven highly effective for fracturing operations and temporary fuel storage at well sites, fundamentally solving the client‘s insufficient fuel storage capacity problem.

- Long‑Term Partnership: The client has adopted this solution as the standard specification for temporary fuel storage across their oilfield operations and has recommended it to other operating companies within the region.

- Proven Reliability: Products remain flexible and fully functional after years of field use – no cracking, no leakage, no UV degradation – validated through multiple repeat orders.

- Environmental Compliance: The solution meets international environmental standards including REACH and RoHS, with cradle-to-grave support for responsible material disposal.

 Client Testimonial (Excerpt)

> “Our well site conditions are extremely harsh, and heavy equipment simply cannot reach many locations. In the past, we relied on steel tanks – each cost tens of thousands of dollars and required cranes to move. Your TPU fuel bladders have solved our critical problem: lightweight, one pickup truck can carry several units, one person can deploy them on site, and they are 100% leak-proof when filled. Most importantly, the ‘pressure test + 7‑day standby’ full inspection process has given us complete confidence. After 8,000 units, we have never looked back.”
